Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Lenkasmith. It's great to have you here. This behavior sounds weird. I would recommend performing a restart to your Surge by following @Rich_Laue instructions. It could be a good idea plugging the charging cable on a different USB port. If this doesn't work, please let the Customer Support know a bout the issue you are experiencing. They will be happy to provide further assistance.

Hey peeps, I had the same problem. Somewhere on the interwebz I saw that it doesn't work with (now) with windows 10. If you have windows 10 and are running into this problem ... go back to the fitbit/setup process and download the PC version. (I am assuming it is for linux and other). Go from there. I did this and I was able to update and charge the Surge.
