Use of Surge on Elliptical

Hi I have trying to use my Surge to measure activity when I use an elliptical. I do 45 minutes and the the elliptical usually has about 1.75 miles but my Surge usually only has me for doing about 800 or 900 steps.  This seems low to me. I choose the elliptical icon and am wondering if I am doing something wrong.  thanks

You are holding on to the bars as it will not count accurately. Also you not covering an exact distance because you are not moving forward.

It will never be accurate as its not a walking activity
