Walking on treadmill very inaccurate

As I read in many other posts, my Surge is not calculating distance properly when walking on a treadmill.  The thing I found most interesting is the slower I walk the more accurate the Surge is in counting steps and distance.  When walking at 3.5mph my Surge says I am at a 40 minute pace.  At 3.5mph my pace should be under 20 minutes.  Increasing the speed of the treadmill would increase my pace instead of decreasing it.  After reducing the speed of the treadmill to 2.5mph it calculated a 22 minute pace which seems more accurate.

The solution mentioned mosts posts regarding similar issues was to adjust your stride.  It is inconvienent and impracticle to have to adjust my stride every time I want to walk on the treadmill and adjust it back when I am done.

Is FitBit working on fixing this issue?

How did you get a treadmill feature on your Surge?  I only have walk and bike and yoga, etc on mine and like you my miles are never accurate.

@SusieQ1984 and @arsica23  i just looked and out of the 14 predifined events see the Surge does  not have a treadmill option like the Blaze and Charge2 do.

Walk, or Run wiuld work as long as you turn of the GPS which is useless since your not moving, and inside a building or use the workout mode, which disables GPS. Another option would be to let the Surge auto detect, but this wont be as accurate in start and end times. Fitbit will use the Heartrate to helo determine calories. .

For distance we will need to make sure GPS is disabled, now we will go for a run on the treadmill. We want to run for at least a mile or two. Now we use this distance, and the Fitbit steps reported to calculate the current stride. Go to an online stride calculator to help with this calculation.

We need to set the stride because without GPS the Surge is unable to measure distance and must use the stride setting  to take an educated guess at the distance  ran/walked.

See these articles that are found in the Futbit helo site, i searched with tye keyword stride or distance.

How to measure and adjust the stride

How does Fitbit calculate distance..

After the Surge has synced if desired the workout can be relabled as treadmill..

I hope you have already downloaded your Surge User Manual kniw about the Online Helo site, link found below as Help. Both have a wealth of iinfo, and often will answer a question without having to wait.
