My steps for one week are 87 355 and the following week 80 161 and my weekly stats report says I have 10 281 fewer steps. Clearly the arithmetic does not add up! Does any one have an explanation.
Thanks

Same problem with my Surge! Difference is always 10,281 steps, as of July 2017. 😞

My Fitbit has been broken since December - finally received my replacement last week and my weekly stats say the same thing as the other complaints, 10,281 over last week - how is that possible when I had NO steps last week? Be patient? 6 months of this issue doesn’t require patience, it requires a resolution.

@YojanaFitbit, stating repeatedly, month after month, that the team is working on this bug is the same as doing NOTHING. I have been in computer IT for forty years so I know how easy a bug like this is to fix, for any programmer who has more than two brain cells to rub together.
You say it is inconsistent, but it's not. Every single weekly status email I have received since last July states my step count is up or down 10,281 steps from last week. There is a place in the code that calculates this that is getting 10281 placed into the variable that is used to create the report. Follow the code and find the place that is occurring and fix it. Simple!
If such a basic calculation is wrong - every single week - then what confidence can I place in any of the other calculations? I have been avoiding creating a spreadsheet to provide my stats but, after seeing this simple bug go unresolved for so long, it seems I'll have to work around Fitbit's apathy. The team is likely spending all their time creating new code for new models so that sales are pumped instead of existing customers being given that for which they have already paid.
Put one programmer in a locked room for one entire day and this will get fixed! And please, no more canned responses that your team is working hard on providing a solution. Clearly, they are not.
It's finally working properly ... at least the total step count comparison to the prior week. I added up all my steps for the last two weeks and the comparison is correct. It is more meaningful, if your goal is 10,000 steps per day, to see the difference in the daily average steps so that 8,000 this week versus 8,500 last week yields -500 steps a day. The totals are virtually meaningless.
You should get more of your programmers wearing a Fitbit every day so they would see the value of showing changes in averages rather than totals - for many things.
The fact that it took Fitbit almost nine months to fix this bug is disgraceful. Step up your game a tad, Fitbit, or you will lose market share to companies who react quickly to their customers' needs - especially when correcting the bugs that they introduced.
