I'm a 53 year old male who runs everyday. I have had a surge for about a year now. My resting heart rate is normally 45. The last few nights my resting rate has dropped by a beat a night. Its now down to 41. Is that an issue with the surge or an issue with my heart ?

I think it's related to the way the app or dashboard calculate RHR. Ever since 2/24 when it seemed to "go off line", the value has been lower for me as well...

Does anyone have any knowledge on how the heart rate calculation may have changed. Its making it harder for me to get into peak zone when running. Or it could be i'm just getting old and slow !!!

I'll be happy to help you @bluesBrother! Your heart rate is measured when your are basically resting, (calm comfortable) and have not recently exerted yourself. Surge uses your heart rate information from when you're awake and asleep to measure your resting heart rate. That means you need to wear your Surge while you're sleeping.
Usually, your resting heart rate is higher than your heart rate while you are asleep, so don't be surprised if your resting heart rate is higher than the lowest number that you see in your heart rate graphs.
The average of our resting heart rate is 60-80 beats per minute, but it's usually lower for physically fit people. This is because, active people often have lower heart rates because their heart muscle is in better condition and doesn't need to work as hard. You also need to know that the average resting heart rate rises with age.

Hey @bluesBrother, I'm six years older than you and a distance runner as well, and oddly enough (or not), I see similar things on my RHR chart to what you're seeing on yours.
That said, when I inspect the 5-minute interval overnight plot of my heart rate I routinely see it down into the mid 30s. There seems to be a correlation between low overnight BPM and Resting BPM and how much stress, or the lack thereof in my life on any given day.
Long story short, from my perspective at least, your heart rate looks perfect. 🙂
