Is it counting your steps correctly?

The Surge isn't capable of 'tracking' distance on a tradmill, all it can do is multiply the number of steps by your stride length setting. Thus, if the step count is right then the stride length must be wrong. (Bear in mind, too, that treadmill strides apparently don't match those when running so whatever you configure probably won't be accurate for both exercise types.)

Can I Adjust the Surge's calculated distances manually for treadmill and stair climber workouts?

Since stride varies based on speed and I seldom walk or run at a consistent pace through the entire span of my workouts, often adjusting my speed based on duration, heartrate, level of fatigue, type of training, etc., it makes sense to just go by the distance information provided by the tread mill, when indoors. Similarly, when using the stair climber, I don't expect the Surge to tell me if I climbed the virtual Eiffel Tower. This is why the GPS and Barrameter are very useful for outdoor training distance accuracy, as they correct for the stride miscalculations.

I would like to know if there is simply a way to "correct" the Surge distance calculation by hand entering the distance into the Fitbit App, so that the historical training log is accurate when paired with my peak heart rate and exercise duration data?

I would also like to know if I can tell the Surge to just use my Cell Phone GPS, when I have both with me, so I can preserve the Surge's battery life?

Hi there @Fit_Bill. Good to see you in the Community!

Currently, there is no way to manually change the distance for treadmill and stair climber. The stride length will update globally so in these situations, I would recommend that if you're on a real walk/run, use MobileRun and your tracker together. This will help you get the GPS information (distance) from your phone and steps, calories, active minutes, etc. from your Surge. To know how to use MobileRun with your tracker, you can take a look at this post here.

Hope this helps and if you need anything else, let me know. I'll be glad to help!
