Hello! I am a momma to be currently one week away from having our first baby. Before I became pregnant i was an avid runner and decided i wanted to add more into my routine and wanted to track it. My sweet husband surprised me with the fitbit surge. I have literally had it out of the box to charge it on my computer and i looked at it and it says ive burned over 700 calories?? I have turned it off and turned it back on, hooked it back up and it continues to show calories burned. Also, when i did try it on to hit the "exercise" button because i walk 3 miles daily it kept saying " no short cut" now excuse me for being frustrated already but i havent even used it yet and its already hard to work...HELP?!

Hello @JSummey,

Welcome to the community!

Your calorie burn:  Fitbit tracks two types of calorie burn.  The first are the calories that you burn based on activity (walking, running, etc).  The second are based on your BMR, these are the calories that you burn for just being alive.  They determine this based on your stats (gender, age, weight, and height).

Your exercise shortcuts: You may edit which exercises are available on your device by going to your device menu.  Though note that you'll need to sync your Surge before those settings take effect.  That said, you'll get credit for the steps either way, you may just not necessarily have that in an official activity.  Another nifty feature that Fitbit recently added was the automatically recognized activites (also configurable in your device settings).  Your Surge will know, based on your movement, that you've been out on a walk (for instance) and will log it as an activity; note that your Surge's display won't change when it does this automatically recognized activity.  It'll just show up when you sync.

I hope this helps.
