red light on the fitbit surge

Just had a red light come on on my surge. From what I read its a firmware update? However I can't see on my dashboard (which I don't really use) or on my Iphones app anywhere to update. I don't have (or really probably lost) the plug in dongle for my laptop so that route is not an option. How can I update it / make the light go away?

 

I have shut the surge down and restarted with no effect.

A red light on the Surge is a warning light suggesting that there is a problem with the fitbit. The usual advice when this occurs is to contact customer support via the following link:

Anyone have another ideas. I contacted customer support who had me do the usual procedures and still bright orange light. Their solution? to offer me 25% off a new fitbit product. My surge just turned 2 years old. At what it cost I should not have to replace it after only two years. Maybe I should dig out my Pebble, or save my pennys for an Apple.
