Calories on Myfitnesspal much higher for same exercise today

I have done the same amount of steps today as yesterday, but the calories adjustment is about 300 higher - too high for the 13,000 steps. Usually get about 500 calories but at the moment it is showing 841 for exercise. Is anyone else seeing this and know how to fix it (apart from adding an extra 300 calories of food on MFP)?
Thanks,
Carole

It looks like a widespread problem -- I use LoseIt! and have the same issue. Is there any way to contact the "powers that be" to express our concerns??

I’ve been having the same problem with the calorie adjustment for MyFitnessPal coming over from FitBit being far too high.

I have disconnected fitbit from MFP as it kept changing during the day too so now manually adding on exercise.

It's 7am, I'm still in bed but apparently I've done 1200 cals worth of exercise 😂 hope they fix this soon

Hello! I am having a lot of trouble with my new Inspire 3, where on the app it will track everything correctly, but when I try and sync everything into MyFitnessPal, it grossly overestimates the calories burned. I’ve tried changing the max heart rate, uninstalling both apps, connecting and disconnecting MyFitnessPal from Fitbit.

Someone please help! Thank you!

Like I said earlier -- very vigorous dreams! I would think the issue could have been fixed; it's been a week or more. Come on techies!

Indeed.

I looked back at yesterday and that 1200 cals of exercise that was there in the morning, was removed at some point when I opened mfp in the evening and it resynced with the Fitbit data. So perhaps there is some sort of correction they are applying for the moment or something.

Still an issue 😞

From the Fitbit status dashboard:

"Some users may notice data discrepancies or syncing issues between 3P apps and Fitbit. Our team is currently investigating the root cause of the issue."

It's a huge pain the butt, and lots of people are having an issue. We're going on day 10 of problems. I'm about ready to buy a Garmin.

Yes - same happened to me yesterday. I reconnected Fitbit to MFP and it was wrong in the morning but by the end of the day it had reduced and was right. Same this morning - saying I have burned 871 calories of excercise when should be about 100 so far. Will see if it evens out during the day.

I’ve been having exactly the same issues. It’s really frustrating. MyFitnessPal say it’s a Fitbit 3p problem

It looks to me that fitbit is including my whole BMR for the day first thing in the morning. That's why the calorie burn sent over to MFP is so high in the morning. Even in Fitbit, when I look at the "food" tile, it will show 1221 calories burned for every day this week even though it is only Monday. How can it know in advance how much I'll burn tomorrow.

If that's the calories burned being sent to MFP, instead of the actual calories burned, then I can see how the value is so high early in the day.

Hi,

Today I haven't really moved yet, only done a couple of steps around the house (754 to be exact). And in MyFitness Pal app, this translates to 884 calories. That doesn't make any sense. I've used another calculator and according to my weight and size, it should be 23 !

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks !!

You're right! I realized the morning that the problem is on Fitbit too, because it's showing like 1300 calories already burned for the next 3 days.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel as well. The outage started 8/30 which was the Friday of a holiday weekend. Both of those things are big no-no's for making production changes. And we've had radio silence since they took notice of the problem 9/3.

Fitbit drove my to MFP by killing the web dashboard, and now they've found a way to break that as well.

I have found with the MFP/Fitbit latest issue that if I log my food in MFP, it syncs fine to Fitbit. I like using MFP for food logging better than using that feature in Fitbit since I have lots of meals and recipes stored in MFP. Then I use the Fitbit Food tile to see where I stand for the day. That feature always took in what it thought my approx total for the day would be using some BMR data (which for me is about 50 cal/hr) even before this latest syncing glitch. I have Fitbit set to sedentary so it only adds in that BMR amount until I actually move or exercise. That allows me to stick pretty close to my 500 cal deficit. I have that deficit in my goals in both MFP and Fitbit. That allows me to ignore the "calories left" and "exercise adjustment" in MFP.
Hopefully the Fitbit people will get the WebAPI fixed at some point.
I have found that if I look back at previous days, the total calorie burn in Fitbit and the calories for the day in MFP are pretty close. So I suppose it is syncing up pretty well by midnight.

We might need to contact support (fitbit and/or myfitnesspal). I have noted the same as well as someone else in these forums. MFP will report some much greater number of calories (that it said came from fitbit) than the fitbit app actually shows, so one side or the other is screwing up the count. This seems to have started sometime between August 9 and September 4. It is not just for the Charge 6.

Also I noticed that for completed days, the total shown for Fitbit calories in MFP seems to match the total shown in the Fitbit app. So it seems they must have made some change how it estimates your full day burn during the day.

In fact, I'm going to poke around MFP support now.

Hello @Emilie_S & @bobdob

There's a bug affecting calorie tracking. The issue has been escalated and the team is working on a fix. Hopefully, it won't take too long before the fix is rolled out.
