Fitbit/Strava GPS query

Hi everyone.

Today I used my Fitbit charge 4 for the first time ever and before I ran, I linked it to my strava account.

When I started my activity, the GPS was still connecting to satellite, however my KM were visibly going up on the watch as I ran.

When I finished my run, my Fitbit app said I’d ran 10k, however, according to the map, I had started later on (approx 1.5km), anyone had this issue?

Additionally, on my strava app, the map was identical to the one on my Fitbit app, however, strava had listed the distance as 8.3km, whereas my Fitbit app said it was 10km.

i have run this route before, with my phone and strava app and it is definitely 10km in length, I’m just wondering what has caused the difference between the distances shown on the two apps?

was it because I began running before the GPS was fully connected?

cheers,

Adam

@AdamHagan8 A warm welcome to the Community. Sorry for the delayed reply.

I appreciate the detailed information shared. Thanks for letting me know that you're using Strava and Fitbit.

All devices with GPS sensors require a direct path to GPS satellites to calculate location. A weak GPS signal might affect the accuracy of your route and other activity data. Your device uses your step count to calculate distance until it finds a signal, so the total distance calculated for a workout may be slightly less accurate when GPS isn't available for the entire time.

Keep in mind that each app has it's own algorithm to track its stats.

I'll be around if you have any additional questions.
