How to link my Fitbit Zip to Walking 4 Fun?

The page says:

"Enter your mileage or steps here each day. For those of you with Fitbit activity trackers, you can do this automatically by linking your Fitbit account with Walking 4 Fun!"

http://www.walking4fun.com/

But I've been searching for help in both places without any clue so far. Your help will be highly appreciated!

Linking from the article certainly works, but I had always intended for people to link their Fitbit through their settings. That little "gear" image near the top-right corner of the page. It goes to your settings at http://www.walking4fun.com/settings/preferences.html where you can link the site to your Fitbit.

I'll add a link on the main page as well to make it earsier though.

Sorry it took me so long to see this post. I'd been hiking the Appalachian Trail for most of the year and hadn't followed Fitbit posts very much! 😃

I'll try to make it easier too! 😃

I just realized that it's kind of a tricky link to actually make it work.... I still plan to add a link, but it might be a month or two after I update the code to do the linking. Fitbit is changing the interface for how that works and I've got some work to do to make the new interface work. Once that's done, though, I'll add the link on the front page!

I just discovered Walking 4 Fun today, through the 6/3 virtual walk thread. I've started around Crater Lake and I absolutely love it!

One question: On the maps the "Friends" link offers a "Fitbit Friends" option. Does that mean that if I get someone on my Fitbit Friends list to join me on a virtual trail they'll show on that version of the map? So I and several of those on my Fitbit Friends list could choose to start a trail on the same day and race each other to the other end? It sounds like a great way to do a challenge!

Well, yes. But they'll only be on the same map if you're both walking the same trail. So if all of your friends join but decide to start on the PCT, you'll still be alone on the Crater Lake Trail. (You can switch trails at any time, however, so you could join them on whatever trail they decide to do.) It's also possible to change the trail map displayed so see your friends on other trails, although you won't show up on those maps since you aren't the trail.

Yep, it happens quite frequently! 😃 They'll usually all agree to start a certain trail on a certain day then work on another trail until the agreed-upon start date. And whoever finishes early will work on another trail until their friends finish and they start racing all over again on another trail. So they usually have two kinds of trails going at any one time. The "main" trail that they're racing each other on, then the "alternate" trail they work on when they aren't in "race mode."

That sounds like great fun. I've got several family members and IRL friends hooked on Fitbit, and we do day or weekend challenges, but something longer with a common trail to follow and pictures along the way would be even more fun. I'll see if I can't drum up some interest. Thanks again for the site!
