Knowing how many calories to eat?!

Hi

i feel like this question has probably been asked a million times before but I’m struggling to get my head around it!!

So I have linked my Fitbit to MyFitnessPal but there seems to be approx 100 cal discrepancy each day in the calories it tells me I have remaining (I haven’t inputted any good yet as I wanted to understand the numbers first).

On the Fitbit app it tells me that I have 1430 cals left for the day. On the website it says the same and explains that this is based on an estimated 1931 calorie burn with a 500 deficit. Makes sense.

However on MyFitnessPal it is telling me that I have 1555 cals left for the day. It explains that this is based on a Fitbit projection of 2051 minus the MyFitnessPal projection of 1886, which is added to my goal calories (1370 which I’m assuming is approx a 500 deficit on my bmr of 1886). So 1370+185=1555.

what I don’t understand is why the Fitbit app/website is projecting my calorie burn to be 1930 but MyFitnessPal is showing that fitbit’s projection is 2051?! Can anyone help?

thanks!

Welcome to the Forums @Becca1989.

Thanks for bringing this up.

It is possible that MFP is using the projection for the whole day, or from previous days, to calculate their estimates. The one showing on the Fitbit end is an estimate made from your current number of calories burnt and the total from previous days. I'm sure that MFP has its own way of estimating the number of calories you will burn.

While the difference is not very significant, I'd say that you use the estimates as guidelines and pay special attention to the current calories that you have burnt over the day and try to stay on the 500 calorie deficit through that.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
