MY Fitness Pal Calories?

Hi,

I have been using my Charge HR and Myfitnesspal for a few weeks now. I use myfitnesspal only to log the food that I eat. My base calorie intake is 1473, then depending on the excercise I do during the day I eat up until my net figure is to as close to zero as possible.

The following day I check on the fitbit app and sometime it says I was over my budget for the previous day, yet the MyFitnessPal apps says I wasn't! I will use yesterday's as an example (I was celebrating a good football results so the figures aren't great!)

MyFitnessPal;

Goal 1473

Food  +2322

Exercise -886

Calories Remaining 37

Fitbit;

Calories in 2725

Calories out 3228

Calories over budget 497

Im sure its a case of me needing to sync it correctly but would be delighted to know how!

@eskeydog Just looking at the numbers you posted the main thing I see is the difference between "calories in" on MFP [2,322] and Fitbit [2,725].  Based on that somehow, Fitbit is thinking you ate 403 calories more than you really did based on the numbers from MFP.  While that doesn't totally equal the difference it is the main reason.  Looks like something messed up in the transfer process.  I know a while back if I logged something in for breakfast (say a coffee and a slice of toast) then a few hours later I had something more that I would consider breakfast (i.e. a granola bar) and add it to MFP breakfast it would mess with Fitbit because it already synced that meal for me.  I believe that has been corrected since I haven't had an issue syncing my food from MFP to Fitbit in a while.

Hello again,

this may not answer your question, but i will try and explain my experience with the same. I was using mfp before i got my charge and was doing really well. When i integrated mfp with fitbit it got really confusing.

mfp takes your base calorie burn and reduces it by  a number of calories to make you lose weight. Any calories burnt exercisng you can eat. Simple. It works. The problem starts when you integrate fitbit and mfp as fitbit makes a calorie adjustment to the mfp based on any calories above you base calorie burn (what you burn when doing nothing). So this not only includes your exercise but calories burnt doing what you normally do (which you wouldn't normally include). So now mfp tells you that you have lots left to eat than before fitbit integration.

So i now use mfp to log food and use fitbit to track it.

Using fitbit to track calories is a more accurate method (whilst still logging in mfp) enabling you to eat more, but the results aren't as good because there is less scope for error when counting calories.

hope that helps

I AM SO CONFUSED. I HAVE HAD MFP FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND YESTERDAY I JUST GOT THE FITBIT AND SYNCED THEM BOTH...TODAY MY FITBIT SAYS I HAVE BURNED 1096. MFP SAYS FITBIT CALORIE ADJUSTMENT IS 20 CALORIES.....WHAT AM I DOING WRONG.  I KNOW FITBIT COUNTS ALL CALORIES BUT I DID 30 MINUTE OF EXERCISE AND THAT ITSELF WAS AT LEAST 54 CALS.. WHY ONLY 20 SHOWS UP....IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS CONFUSING TO LOSE WEIGHT...ANY HELP?? HOW OFTEN DO THEY SYNC?
