You can sync the two .. go to apps at MFP and set it up. It works really well. Good luck.

it syncs the two, but i think you have to actually log on to mfp for it to show that you have logged on for so many days in a row.  I use both, and on days that I haven't been on mfp I don't think it comes up that i logged on

Log your food into MFP. Fitbit will update your calories burned, to MFP, so that you can get an idea of how much you can eat.

I have a few questions for anyone who also syncs their fitbit with MyFitnesspal.com

I log into MFP daily to enter my food. I never worry about my calorie burn because it wirelessly uploads from my Fitbit One to this site.  I have been using Fitbit for a few years but only recently upgraded to the Fitbit One.  Now here is my question.  On my treadmill I burned 800 calories in 90 min jogging today.  The Fitbit adjustment 9credit for activity I earned) only credited me with 502 calories...so where are my other 300 calories.  For me this is an entire meal!!!  ha ha

I eat aprox 1300 calories a day . If I burn 900 thats huge because I would obviously need to eat more food.  So my second question is do you eat all your calories earned or should you eat none...or half? I ask because my 1300 calories is already low due to what I said I wanted to lose in X amount of time. If I eat lower or higher then their calculation for my loss won't work out as planned.

thanks guys

Was the treadmill tracking your HR? Did you configure the treadmill settings to account for your age/weight to help with the estimation? Several variables at play. Even if everything was set correctly, there will likely still be a difference between your One and what the treadmill calculates; at least there always is between my Force, HRM, and treadmill/bike. I tend to embrace the lower calorie burn to be on the safe side.

Yes my treadmill is configured. If I actually enter my physical activity manually on MFP I do get close to 800 calories which is close to what my treadmill also shows.
There have been other times when I do a quick 30 min jog and "earn" 300 to 350 calories....yet MFP gives me a measley 125 calories. I just don't understand where the big difference comes from.
I always take the lower amount but I feel lime I am getting ripped off. Burning 100 calories every 10 minutes is fairly normal and 800 for a 90 min jog is totally within an expected burn.

Thanks

Anything that measures your HR will likely be more accurate than a simple pedometer. I use my Polar HRM calculated calorie burn more often than not when I'm running.

I think what she is asking is why does MFP give her less calorie credit than the Fitbit shows. The answer is MFP makes a calorie adjustment which already takes into account what they thought your calorie burn would be before the sync. In other words, If Fitbit says you burned 500 calories and MFP only gives you a 400 calorie adjustment it is because MFO already was assuming you would burn 100 calories. The adjust is supposed to be the diffrerence between the 2.

Look at how far your fitbit says you ran compared to what your treadmill has.  I'd be willing to bet you're getting discounted on your distance as well.  Your treadmill knows how many miles it spins while you're exercising.  It also will take into consideration any incline which will increase calories burned but not show up with your fitbit.  Additionally, when using a treadmill as opposed to running outside, when you speed up the pace on the treadmill the belt speed increases and most people will also use a little bit longer stride.  When this happens in reality you're using more energy, thus burning more calories.  Since the fitbit is basing it's calculations on steps, you're not getting the credit for going faster.

If you really want to be able to "eat" all of your calories, then I'd suggest getting a heart rate monitor and then synching that to MFP.  That will give you the most accurate information.
