MyFitnessPal, Google Fit, and Fitbit might be duplicating my numbers

Forgive me if already answered.

I use Fitbit for step counting as I'm not always able to hold my phone on me for Google Fit to do that. However my Fitbit has no appreciation of cycling, apparently, which I also do. Google Fit records this excellently, as a rule.

I have Google Fit as my step counter in MFP. I have Google Fit as another linked app.

I notice today that Fitbit seems to have noticed when I was active on my bike and awarded me active minutes for that time. My Fitbit doesn't monitor heartrate. I never told it I did active minutes by logging them. My Fitbit and Google Fit apps aren't connected,I think, except that they both individually link to MFP.

Am I double counting the calories that I'm given in MFP if they are coming from 1 cycle ride that has been logged as active minutes in Fitbit and as a cycle journey in Google Fit?

Cheers,

Hello @Mophie, welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community. Don't worry about posting something that might be already answered. I'm sure all information shared in our Community is pretty helpful to all of us.

With cycling, it will depend of the tracker you have. Although in general words the Fitbit tracker is not primary designed to read this type of exercise since there is no motion of going forward like a regular walk where involves an impact whit each step. So in this instance is harder for your tracker to know the exercise you are doing, but with the recent versions of trackers that incorporate heart rate sensor, is more easy to read this type of activity.

Now Google Fit is not a supported app with Fitbit, but if you have connected MFP to your Fitbit account and Google Fit to MFP individually, this might create a loop of information on how your exercise is being logged across.

To give you an example of this loop: You sync with Google Fit and the data is sent to MFP, here in MFP the data is compile and shared in form of a manual activity to your Fitbit account resulting in Active minutes and calories. Now since Fitbit and MFP also shared calories among this integration; the overall number of calories is also shared to MFP causing duplicate numbers since Google Fit already gave you credit for calories in MFP.

This is just a theory if you have connected your apps individually as you mentioned before. So if this is the case the only solution would be to removed one of the integrations connected to MFP.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions.
