Fitbit Update 10/29/2015: As this issue has now been resolved, I am closing the thread from further discussion.

Thank you to everyone who reported this issue and for your patience while we worked to get it resolved. Happy to know that your food logs are back to normal! Robot Very Happy

Fitbit Update 10/25/2015

Syncing food from MFP to Fitbit is now back to normal. Thank you again for everybody's patience while this problem was being worked out.

Fitbit Update 10/22/2015: MyFitnessPal is aware and has added this to their known issues page. Fitbit and MyFitnessPal are closely working together to get this issue resolved ASAP.

In the meantime, a workaround to try is to manually delete the duplicate entries from your Fitbit Food Log. In order to delete duplicate entries, do the following:

  1. Go to your Fitbit Food Log.
  2. Hover over the duplicate food item, an "X" should appear on the left-hand side.
  3. Click the "X" to delete the entry (illustrated below).

Another option is to unlink your MyFitnessPal account from your Fitbit account and checking your calories on MFP until the multiplying issue is fully resolved!

Thank you for your continued patience as we work alongside MFP to get this issue resolved!

Fitbit Update 10/21/2015: Some users have reported that their MyFitnessPal food log entries are being multiplied on their Fitbit Food Log.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but Fitbit and MyFitnessPal are both aware of the issue. We are currently working on resolving this issue with MFP's help. MyFitnessPal has also posted an update here as well. I will share updates here with everyone when I find out more! Thank you for your patience! Robot Very Happy

Hello everyone! I'm still gathering more informationfor a fix for the calories issue. I found out that our engineers are aware of the calories issue and are working on another update with a remedy. It seems as though users experiencing calorie differentials with MyFitnessPal is somewhat correlated to the calories issue, so I'll keep them all together in this thread. I'll find out more information about this soon and once I do, I'll update everyone here.

@mrdmkerr Thanks for sticking with this thread. I'll go ahead an update here with both issues.

@ToddSteever  +1 for the screenshot and nice theory as to why this issue is happening. It looks like each logged summary has a different calorie total. This is expected as these are different meals or items that were synced from MyFitnessPal. When you compare the calories on the app and the calories logged on Myfitnesspal, are they the same totals? Or am I missing the boat here?

@lgmic Thanks a lot for using the workaround! I've personally tried logging food via Myfitnesspal and was unable to reproduce the issue on my Dashboard, but this is not to say there isn't an issue. I'll find out more information on what's happening and inform everyone on here as soon as I can.

@SunsetRunner Thanks for reporting. I'd like to know if you're seeing the same amount of calories being logged twice on your Dashboard? It sounds like there's "ghost" calories showing up and if this is the case, I'll have to forward it to our developers for review. I'm sorry for your frustration and know that we're looking into the issue and hope to have a fix for this soon. Thanks for your patience.

I'm seeing the exact same issue as Rooe. My calorie count is higher in fitbit than in myfitnesspal because fitbit is double-counting certain portions of meals for some reason. It appears to be random - for example, if I log an ounce of cheese and some crackers, sometimes it'll double the cheese. Or it double-counts other individual items. This started happening for me this past weekend. I really prefer fitbit to myfitnesspal for looking at my calorie totals, so I really hope you can fix this soon!

Hello everyone!

I've created a new thread that will solely address calories being reported high due to syncing with MyFitnessPal or any other 3rd party integration. I'm not seeing any other reports with other 3rd parties but will do some research with MyFitnessPal to see if there's anything going on. Thanks for your patience while we get things back to normal!

I'm interested to know what you find out about this issue. I'm having the same problem. There are random calorie amounts in my meal summaries that don't match what I record in MFP (sometimes two extra calorie totals in one summary!) ... I have screen shots but can't seem to post them here from my phone. Nonetheless, I'm also one who is experiencing this issue.

Yesterday I disconnected FitBit from My Fitness Pal and reconnected them as instructed here.

Today I entered lunch all at once from the MFP app. And then FitBit had TWO lunches shown - one with the actual number of calories entered in MFP and the other with 15 calories less.

So for me, disconnecting them didn't fix things.

It seems to be correctly syncing the info now. At least it has for the last 2 days so the problem may be fixed. Hope so.

Exactly the same thing is happening to me.  I eventually went into the log tab on my fitbit dashboard and manually deleted the additional meals (ie where 2 snacks show, delete one so the one with the right calories remains) however this shouldn't be happening and is only a bandaid measure until the syncing is sorted out.

Hello guys! I'm sorry for the troubles between MyFitnessPal and Fitbit. If you're still experiencing this trouble, please join the following discussion. My friend @RickyFitbit is investigating with our specialists so he will provide instructions about how to proceed from now on with this topic. We hope to fix this as quickly as possible. Thanks!

I created another thread a week ago and was directed to follow this one. Waiting for this problem to be fixed.

Same issue here. Sync with Myfitnesspal produces 2 lunches or dinners with different calory counts. Looks a lot like the screenshot. I just delete the erroneous entry, but that is a pain.

I had posted in the other thread about this.

As suggested there, I disconnected the 2 apps / websites from each other and reconnected. However, it still happens. Doesn't matter if I enter the data on the My Fitness Pal website or via their apps - I sometimes get 2-3 meals when I enter one. Just now I entered my lunch via the MFP website and then looked at the FitBit website and it had 3 lunches of different calorie counts. I deleted two of them.

Was there some back-end software change made on or about Nov 10th? That's when it started happening for me.

It seems like MFP sends info whenever you make a change and FitBit isn't replacing old info but adding it as a whole separate meal.

I've been experiencing this problem too for over a week now I think.

I may have some insight into why some people are reporting that some meals are double-counted, with one calorie count being "incorrect." I tend to pre-log my food on MyFitnessPal early in the day, using educated guesses about measurements for portion sizes, etc. As the day goes on and I actually eat my food, I measure the portion sizes more accurately, and record the changes in MyFitnessPal. (Sometimes I also end up not eating a food I had pre-logged, or eating something just plain different from what I pre-logged. All changes get updated in MyFitnessPal.).

So what seems to be happening is that often, the same meal is getting synced to Fitbit multiple times, and the calorie count is different because hey, it turned out that I ate more or less calories than what was previously logged for that meal. And for whatever reason, Fitbit isn't deleting the older entry: it just adds a new one for the meal.

Sorry. I thought the problem was fixed because my info was correct for the past 3 days but today there were 2 dinner entries, not a duplicate but increased the caloric count significantly. I did go into the web page and delete the incorrect entry but that is not a long term solution, at least I hope not. I did report it to Fitbit Tech support and they say they are working on it.

The same problem here - dinner entry in myfitnesspal was synced with Fitbit, and then when I updated the entry in myfitnesspal, then Fitbit didn't modify the earlier synced entry, it just "added" another dinner entry. So now I have 2 dinner entries, almost doubling my calorie count for dinner! Hope they fix it soon - been a while!

I am having the same problem fi I delay adding foods to one of my meals on MFP (which Ive been using over 1y) FitBit (using 3 wks) adds the new total as a new meal. I have done a temp fix by adding extra meals to MFP : Breakfast, AM Snacks, Lunch, PM Snacks, Dinner, PM Snacks, but Id rather just have 3 meals and one snack option..........please sort it ASAP 🙂

You mentioned starting a new thread on this issue but I didn't see it. I am having the same issue with phantom calories showing up for a couple of weeks and none of the troubleshooting has help. Do we need to continue to follow this thread for an update or are we just waiting for an app update? Thanks.

I've started having the same issue yesterday. I had 9 copies of dinner, all with different calorie amounts. It appears that any time I change things on mfp it adds a new meal to fitbit. I have to manually go into fitbit.com and delete them. Not a huge issue but I love seeing my little food gauge in the green and that Nailed It is like a virtual high five at the end of the day. Good to know its being worked on. 🙂

Just to add to the number of people with the issue.

Both my wife and I have been seeing this occur randomly over the last couple of weeks in our Logged Foods - sometimes just one meal, sometimes in more than one, and sometimes several allocated to one meal.

I had posted this is another thread on this issue, but since this thread seems to focused specifically on my concern - and still not showing a fix 😞 - I wanted to add my name to list of those growing frustrated with the lack of a permanent solution to this problem.  My response to the statement that the developers are aware and working on this (from almost three weeks ago now!):

Hoping that they are still working on this issue...  😞  I followed the advice given to me last week to revoke access for the myFitnessPal app and the reauthorize.  While this worked to correct my data last week, it is now having the same issue with logging the food entered into myfitnesspal twice, which makes this data pointless.  I would use the fitbit food entry but the myfitnesspal has a much more extensive list of foods and calories, while fitbit is sorely lacking in this area.

Just revoked and reauthorized again, but will quickly become frustrated with having to do this repeatedly (especially since it cannot be done from the apps and requires me to log in through the dashboard/pc).  Thus, hoping that the developers are still working on this and will release an update soon!
