Welcome to the Fitbit Community @SunsetRunner. It's great to have you here. Thanks for sharing your idea with us. You are welcome to join a discussion about changing the way data is synced between Fitbit and RunKeeper in a similar suggestion placed in the Feature Request board.
The information transferred between Fitbit and RunKeeper is currently one way integration as shown in the following chart:
On another note, recorded activities from Strava are synced over to Fitbit. GPS activities are synced from Fitbit to Strava. More information about Strava and Fitbit integration can be found in @AndrewFitbit's post.
Catch you later.

Fitbit blames Runkeeper. Runkeeper blames Fitbit. Sadly I doubt anything will change. I gave up hope and just let Fitbit record my runs while I actually use Runkeeper to review my progress.

I'd really like to get my Runkeeper data into Fitbit. I use Runkeeper to plot GPS. I use a Charge HR so no GPS there and the Fitbit app is limited in functionality compared to Runkeeper for tracking workouts.

As a 2.5 year user of Fitbit and longer for Runkeeper, I'm aware of Fitbit's limitations. That's why I still track all of my workout sessions through Runkeeper. Add in the ability to use my Polar H7 with Runkeeper but not Fitbit and it's a done deal.
