So how do calories correlate between MFP and Fitbit?

I have seen several sources, and I just don't understand how it all works. If I go for a run, using my fitbit, does that get automatically get synced with MFP for my calorie adjustment? Or is it just steps? I am sorry if I am not making sense, just trying to reconcile the two very helpful services.
