Strava integration - activities not showing in Fitbit

Hi everyone - I linked my accounts on Wednesday and my first two rides recorded in Strava synced without any issues (Wedneday evening, Thursday morning Australian Eastern Standard Time).  I've logged two more rides since then (Thursday evening and Friday monring, AEST) and neither of them have synced to my Fitbit account - I can't see them on the web dashboard or on my iPhone app.  Both of them are showing fine in Strava.

I thought the accounts may have been disconnected so I checked and they show as being connected in both web dashboards.

Has there been any issue with the sync service?  If not do you know of a way to get it working again short of disconnecting and reconnecting the accounts?

@MatthewFitbit - still exactly the same problem....  I ve tried so many times on different machines with many different browsers and still get exactly the same problem.

I haven't re-connected since my last post and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  I commute each way to work so I get ample opportunity to verify the functionality.  It would be nice if Fitbit would admit that the bugs aren't worked out instead of letting us continue to **ahem** about it here.  All the rides that haven't shown up in my activity log have shown up in other locations that pull from Strava so I'm pretty sure the problem isn't on Strava's end.  If the ride hasn't shown up in a few hours I just manually enter it.  It only takes 3 pieces of data since the functionality is so limited.

Hello Fitbit Community,

I use Strava and have for a while now.  I connected my Strava and Fitbit accounts last week and was happy to see my runs showing up in Fitbit.  Monday and Tuesday seemed to work ok (a little slow to appear as an activity in Fitbit but it eventually showed up).  Yesterday both my run and my walk through Strava never showed up in Fitbit.

I revoked access to both Fitbit and Strava and reconnected them yesterday and still nothing.

Has there been any updates on this??

Thanks for your time!!

Just an update....It seems to be working now as both my walk and run from yesterday using Strava appeared in the activities in Fitbit.  My Wednesay activity never appeared.

Add me to the list of users that are unable to sync Strava rides to Fitbit. I have contacted Fitbit support and I recieved the follow response via email:

They misunderstood that we aren't trying to push data to Strava, rather pull data from Strava, so the device shouldn't matter. I replied specifying this, so we'll see if it goes anywhere. @MatthewFitbit I told the helpdesk person to contact you if they are unsure about what the specific issue is.

Same here, add me to the list of users who can't sync. I haven't been able to sync any activities for the past days. Neither from Strava nor from Garmin via Fitdatasync (which seems to down at the moment. Probably because of the Fitbit sync problem, I guess).

It would be very appreciated to get a status update from Fitbit when they expect it to work again.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is the fix or not but I revoked access on both my Fitbit AND strava accounts and then reconnected them. It seems to be working for me now.

I do call into question the calorie count as it seems to be taking calories burned away from my Fitbit total when the strava exercise gets synced to Fitbit.

@superakcraig FYI, I have tried your solution a number of times without any success. I haven't been able to sync anything for the past 3 days...

When using strava in Fitbit it sync's the data and shows in excersize that I've done a 10k bike ride but the total distance travelled on Fitbit stats only shows what my charge hr has logged for the days when general use and is not adding the ride stats for distance .

I use Fitbit to sync TO Strava, on my Surge via my Nexus 5 (android 5.1.1)

I just reauthorized Strava integration with Fitbit by removing approval on both sides, then using the link you gave http://strava.fitbit.com/  to reauthorize.  A quick test Bike ride resulted in the activity exporting into Strava correctly.  I did not  review it for HRM, which has been included previously.  I hope that nothing is changing regarding the data transferred.

This seems to be working reliably for me now.  After a few weeks of hit or miss operation and several days of nothing at all; the last dozen or so rides have transfered from Strava to Fitbit.

Did you have to disconnect / reconnect more than once or was once enough to get it working?  Mine was working after a disconnect / reconnect but mysteriously stopped and I don't really want to be messing with it (disconnect / reconnect again) unless I know it's going to fix things.

Thanks for any input you can give.

Hi everyone,

Quick update on some of the interactions I've had with the Strava Support team. Here is their response to my inquiry:

Sorry for the trouble you're experiencing with activities syncing between Strava and Fitbit. These issues can be tough to troubleshoot and it is likely that the issue is not a Strava issue because the integration was actually not built by us but simply uses our API.

The best thing to do is to "Revoke" access from within your Strava Profile Settings (https://www.strava.com/settings/apps) and then reconnect the accounts from the Fitbit account connection page (http://strava.fitbit.com/). Unfortunately this is only potential solution at this time.

This is still a pretty new integration and we apologize for the difficulties. We're in touch with Fitbit and hope to be able to work out all the kinks in the near future.

Regards,
Strava Support Team

Hi ramses0, I did the disconnect/reconnect thing a few times. The last time I did it, I logged a ride in Strava after and it didn't come through but they started to the next day.  Since then it has picked every one up.

Just a note:

Make sure you revoke both Fitbit from Stava and Stava from Fitbit before reconnecting.

I did this and my rides finally started syncing to Strava again.

I have tried to revoke/reinstate access to Strava with no success. The applications still do not sync with one another. Any updates on this issue?

Update

Neither the Fitbit or Strava support team have contacted me further. However, I have had some Strava rides start syncing to Fitbit. It would seem they are making some progress. I would suggest continuing to revoke and re-enable access for those still experiencing issues.

A couple questions for users that are successfully syncing rides:

  1. Do 'fake' steps recorded during a bike ride get deleted from your daily total once Strava rides are synced? Or are you adding calories from both your ride and the 'fake' marathon you just ran?
  2. Calories differ between Strava and Fitbit (Fitbit is usually higher). Is Fitbit calculating a new calorie burn based on the imported Strava data and the HR data from your Fitibit device?

3.  Is there supposed to be GPS data imported from Strava even in you have the HR? This is all I'm seeing      on my dashboard

I had to revoke access a couple of weeks ago and reconnect and it worked, but it stopped working again today. I just revoked access again, but now I can't reconnect to Strava. I keep getting an error. Totally disappointing!! This is the only reason I bought another surge for my husband. I'm spending as much time trying to get our rides to sync as riding 😞

Hi @Rcubed,

While this problem is very frustrating, I would just be patient. This integration is huge, more than Fitbit realizes (The Strava community is massive, which is a large market for Fitbit device sales). I think the syncing difficulties we are experiencing were entirely unexpected, and their API integration team was caught off guard. It would be nice if they could acknowledge the problem and update us on exactly what the issue is though. The best we can do right now is continue to update each other on our syncing status and difficulties.
