I'm having trouble getting the my fitness pal app to recognize the steps with the Fitbit to get extra calories for the day

It's nice to have you here in the Community @Twinmomdina. I was able to find another user's thread that was experiencing this issue. You can log to that thread here and follow @DerrickS's recommendation.
