Why is there a difference in calories burned with MyFitnessPal and Fitbit?

Hi, I just got my brand new Fitbit Charge 3 yesterday! I really love it and I think I'm starting to figure some things out. I've connected my Fitbit to my MFP account and I'm not quite sure why my Fitbit is saying one thing, and my MFP account I saying something else. For example: I went for a 1 and a half hour walk today. My Fitbit say I burned 551 calories, but when I checked MFP it says I've only burned 277 calories.

What should I trust? And why does MFP show something else than my Fitbit?? Is there a way to sync my Fitbit data with MFP so I can get one number instead of two, quite different ones?

As I've said; I'm still a newbie and haven't figured everything out about my Fitbit yet. Maybe I've done something wrong? And if so, how do I fix my mistake?

Have you entered your personal info, such as weight, in the FitBit dashboard?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Maja_14. It's nice to see you around @ksgarvin.

@Maja_14 Congratulations on your new Fitbit Charge 3! I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing your concern about the different calories you see on Fitbit and MyFitnessPal after connecting your accounts. I would like to advise that once connected you will be able to view the foods and activities that you log on your MyFitnessPal account on your Fitbit Dashboard. From the "Check In" section of your MyFitnessPal account, you will see the steps taken and sleep tracked by your Fitbit device.

You will also see a calorie adjustment from Fitbit. Whenever MyFitnessPal receives calorie burn data from your Fitbit Tracker, it compares that to the projected calorie burn for your account and adjusts your calorie goal accordingly.

Keep in mind that if you sync your Fitbit at 11:00 AM, MyFitnessPal will only have information about your Fitbit calorie burn data through 11:00 AM that day. If only a partial day's worth of data is available, MyFitnessPal will combine the actual data from your Fitbit with an estimate of your calorie burn for the remainder of the day based on the daily activity level you selected when creating your MyFitnessPal account. This allows MyFitnessPal to create a more accurate estimate for your daily calorie burn based on the best data they have available from your Fitbit tracker at that time.

You can find more information about connecting your Fitbit account with another app in this help article: How do I connect my Fitbit account with another app?

@ksgarvin thank you for your participation and support!
