Why won't my working heart monitor sync with iCardio app?

I've had a number of heart monitors (the kind you strap on your chest) in the last few years, all using the same low energy Bluetooth connection to a series of iPhones. Right now I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 11.4 and a heart monitor branded as "CooSpo" though it looks identical to several other brands.

I can get this monitor to sync with various apps, e.g.HeartRate with no problem and I can see my heart rate on the phone right there in the Apple Health app - but try as I might, I can't get iCardio to admit that there is even a monitor attached: it always says "No sensors detected"! Manifestly the sensor IS connected. I have tried all the usual restarts etc. plus a new battery in the monitor.

This worked a while back in earlier versions of iOS, up to say March this year.

Can anyone say what's going on? Will I have to buy a more expensive monitor, and if I do, how can I guarantee that it will work with iCardio?

This is not really a reply, just supplementary information:

1. The monitor works well with the Strava app, but sadly doesn't link with my data from the original app. But it has absolutely no problem connecting with the monitor.

2, When I start the app, it says it's looking for the Apple Watch: I haven't got an Apple Watch and haven't set any parameters saying I have - the preferences for heart monitors seem to me to be mixed up with those for the Watch. Maybe this is part of the problem.
