Versa 3 battery drains quickly after the update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Since my versa3 firmware was updated 3 weeks ago to version 36.128.5.38, the batterylife is only 1 or 2 days now. Before it was round 5 or 6 days. Besides the update nothing changed on my versa3 also not in the way I use the watch. Do other users experience the same issue?

Hi there, @nltosp. Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums and sharing the details about the issue with your Versa 3.

Personally, my Versa 3's battery life is still doing fine even after the update, it's lasting as expected.

Please note, as with other electronic devices, the battery will depend on the features and how often they're used, such as the GPS, Spotify app or the Always-On display. While this doesn't mean that you shouldn't use them, please take into into consideration the conditions that impact your watch's battery.

That being said, I'd recommend to change the clock face to one designed by Fitbit and please confirm if you've followed the tips and recommendations to maximize your watch's battery life described here.

Hope that helps.

Hi Marrefitbit,

Thanks for your (default) answer.

Of course I followed the recommendations already and of course I know that batterylife depends the way it is used etc.

Because I do not use the watch different than before the firmware update and also did not install other apps/software or another watchface, I am curious if other users experience the same after the updated firmware. I found already messages from other users regarding this same issue.

Sometimes users have more Fitbit information snd solutions than what is just available in the Fitbit manuals where you default refer to.

Hopefully the solution still will follow

I hear you on the (default) answers we get.

I honestly have no clue if mine has been updated - my version is 36.128.5.38.  My fitbit is less than a year old and the battery is lasting my 2-1/2 days whereas before was almost 5.  I have no GPS, quick view is off.   I have everything turned off and it's still draining.  I charged it yesterday morning to 100% and by this morning it's at 50% which is crazy.

I would also like the Coach update thingy to be removed from my watch.  I have deleted the Coach app, but it will not stop trying to update.

I wish we would have answers rather than the usual check this, this and this....which those of us who have had a device for a number of years have done.

Same here.  I suspect you are having the same issue as me and many, many other Versa 3 users following the firmware upgrade.  The Fitbit app is continually trying to install Coach, which is no longer available.  So, it's trying to install something which doesn't exist.  As a result of the 24/7 attempt to install Coach, the battery on both the fitbit and smart phone are being drained quickly.

You can check if you are having the same issue by going to the myapps on your fitbit and see if Coach is trying to install.

Check out the other posts in the community about Coach.

Unfortunately, even after over a month of this issue, fitbit does not have a fix.

This is exactly it. The stupid Coach thing! Killing my battery too.

I have exactly the same problem. Battery drains like crazy when the watch was turned OFF. On Sunday night it was 90% before I switched it off. On Tuesday morning when I switched it ON it was already 30%... It is pretty much unusable now...

I upgraded my firmware last Sunday afternoon.

Again I'm very disappointed with my stupidity. I told myself many times "don't fix it if it ain't broken" but why the hell did I upgrade the firmware...

Best Answer

To be fair before the upgrade I've also experienced battery draining when the watch is OFF but only once in a while so still tolerable. But after the upgrade it became consistent. I charged it to 100% on Tuesday evening and switched it OFF. On Wednesday evening it's only 69% when it's ON again.

Try this.go to activity and wellness.heart settings.turn off high and low heart rate.

Also the clock face sucks battery...so try changing that....

I had to remove the sp02 app real battery hog and no useful data...

Obviously remove coach app.

Let me know how it goes....

I'm also tired of these generic answers

that’s the problem… You cannot remove the coach app because it cannot install, it’s stuck in a loop.

Thanks for the tips and recommendations about maximizing the battery life, but the reason I bought this watch is so that I could use the bells and whistles.  So I guess, I am caught in a loop, just like the Coach program that keeps trying to re-load on my Versa 3 ?!

I did turn off the snore & noise detect as it says it impacts battery, so we will see how this works. I guess every time these new features come out, Fitbit should put information out there in bold that lets us know how it will affect the watch/tracker that we have.

Totally rethinking staying with Fitbit, which I have had for years now, as I find this an unfortunate thing that each new update or feature that comes out, decreases our battery.  It really shouldn't be that way when we pay so much for these.

I turned off high and low heart rate and uninstalled sp02 app. Didn't find coach app in the list anyway... After all these the battery draining seems to be stopped. Off the whole night and the battery level was and still is 61% upon switching on. Will see if the good behavior can last

My versa 3 same problem. Battery dont last even drains when its switched off. After 2 days battery empty and it was switched off 2 days!

I have this exactly same problem. This app Coach is trying to get installed and the battery is draining quickly. I noticed that the watch is restarting quite often too, without a reason. How to get rid of this Coach app? Can't stop the installing process...

That's just it... Fitbit hasn't provided a solution, for a month now. This is why we're on here begging for a solution.

I did a full reset on the app and factory reset on the watch... definitely made a difference....I'm getting pretty much what I had preupdate...I try and do a hard reset once a month...I noticed that also helps with battery drain....the hard rest is when you hold the side button for 5secs till it restarts

@MarreFitbit

Hi Marrefitbit,

If I understand well, you still represent Fitbit on this forum. I have still 2 question for you/Fitbit

On the 7th of July I reported on this forum a technical issue that I have with my Versa3 since the latest firmwatre update. Concerns a quick battery drain that happens in my Versa3 exactly since the firmware update became active.

Based on the reactions of other users I got, for which I am thankfull,  it is clear that I am definitely not the only one with this technical issue. But even if I was the only one, still an explanation and solution should be in place.

To make my reported issue more concrete. I swich off my versa3 (via settings) every night because I never use and never wear my versa3 during sleeping. Last night when I switched off my versa3, the batterylevel was 58%. This morning, when I switched on my versa3 again, the battery level was 23%. So 35% (!) is gone during the 7 hours period my versa3 was fully switched off last night and so not used. This happens every night since the latest firmware update and did never happen before the update.

The fact this happens when the versa3 is fully switched off confirms (proves) extra that this reported issue with the quick battery drain has nothing to do with the way the versa3 is used or with the chosen watchface etc. as supposed in your first reaction.  I suppose this is also clear for you.

Question1:

Please can you/fitbit inform me where my versa3 uses 35% of the battery for during hours when the versa3 is fully switched off and so is not used in those hours. To avoid misunderstandings, this was never the case before the latest firmware update.

Question2:

Is Fitbit busy to solve this technical issue at this moment, and when we can expect a structural working solution for this issue?

Thanks in advance for your constructive answer!

With kind regards

Just to follow up: I switched off the watch on Sunday night with 65% of battery. After one day and one night when I switched it on again it was 15%!!!! So there is definitely a big issue here. Turning off high/low heart rate and removing SpO2 won't solve the problem.

Hope someone from the dev team can look into this: what is draining the bat so badly while Versa 3 is OFF

Get a replacement the battery clearly dead
