Hi there, @ALL3NW. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums.
Regarding your inquiry, as it happens with other electronic devices, the Fitbit was designed to track swimming, so it is water resistant and can withstand exposure to chlorine for an certain period of time, but I would not recommend to wear it the entire 8 hours, everyday and without breaks, as it would potentially cause some damage eventually.
On a side note, I have seen that sea water (salt water) tends to damage many electronic devices, so it's always recommended that you follow the steps listed in the Wear & Care guide, and to dry the watch before wearing it.
Keep in mind that these devices are more designed to be worn at a pool, river or lake, so I wouldn't recommend using salt water for a prolonged period of time.
Water resistance may diminish over time and can be negatively impacted by any of the following:
If your device gets wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. If your device comes into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser (like Cetaphil) and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

I would not. I held off wearing my Versa 3 in the pool for a year. Since it had a swim mode, I decided to take them at their word that is was water resistant. I was in a 6 1/2 foot pool, did not dive in. I swam 4 laps and the screen went dark. I dried it off, washed it off, plugged it in and nothing worked. Called customer service and they had me repeat all of the above and then sent me a coupon for 35% of my next purchase. Based on my review of this site, I now see that they do not, in fact, make a water resistant product. Save yourself the hassle and take it off.

I wish that were true. The watch is not water resistant. Mine was gone after 4 laps in the pool. (I did not dive in). Note many others have had similar experiences. Maybe someday, you will get as good as a Timex.
