Can't open text messages on my Versa 4

I've had my Versa 4 since mid November 22 and have a Galaxy S22 and it sends me message (text) notifications to my phone but it does not open the actually open the text message to be read when I select "Open" it only sends a link back to my phone that if I look at my phone the text is open to be read.  What sense is that?  All other apps that I have connected will notify me and then proceed to open the notice to be read on the Versa 4. It allows calls and everything else through but won't allow me to read texts. I use the "Messages" app and all of the permissions seem to be set correctly.  Frustrating. I previously had a Charge 2 and only switched because the screen was cracked and I didn't use it for any notifications but I've factory reset, rebooted, shutdown, restarted so many times with no greater success.

@DCBoops That's very strange. I have a Versa 4, but I'm using iOS and I don't get any sort of link to open messages on my phone. I wonder if any other Android users are experiencing this. Is it all text messages or only some?

@Heather-S It's all texts.  Once I click on the Open button for the message notification from my Versa 4, I get a "Link sent" response and icon.  Then I have to open my get my phone to read it.  It could be a simple one word text to a long text and it sends a link to my phone to view it.

Having the same issue and am now on my 4th versa 4 since Dec 2022. Can't get a straight answer from Fitbit how to fix this

Have you had any success getting this fixed? I haven't and am now on my 4th versa 4 since Dec. I too have done all the trouble shooting. No answer from Fitbit with all the calls I have made other than it's a "quirk".

Hi @cantfineanswer - as @Heather-S says, it is strange, if you are on the latest firmware version, with a Versa 4 on Android it works normally to open the app on the phone to access the full message.

You will see the current version of firmware in the watch Settings, About [watch], System info to compare with What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update?

i have the most up to date firmware and still message envelope appears on my fitbit but when I click on it it says link and heads to my phone. What is the point of having messages if you can't read them on fitbit and have to go to the watch. Sure wish someone would answer how to fix this

@cantfineanswer- what is the message application? and what phone do you have?

Your case may be different, when you receive the message on the watch it comes in 2 parts, a header and then the text. When you scroll the text to the bottom and see Open and click on it, then look on the phone, the message should appear opened.

sms blue says Messages on samsung s10. I had no issues with messages with my first fitbit versa end of dec. My issue then was tracking miles. That is also still not resolved

@cantfineanswer  - it should appear as mentioned on that phone for SMS. It is odd if it doesn't.

If you haven't already logged out of the Fitbit App, swiped off the active window and cleared the storage cache and force stopped it and then restarted both phone and watch to refresh the working, try that.

Then remove the Bluetooth entry for the watch from the phone and login to the Fitbit App, allow it to remake the pair and link and sync and see if that fixes it.

The notification shows a message came in on the watch but when I click open it says link and goes to my phone. Message doesn't open on watch

@cantfineanswer - you will only see the notification text on watch, the same that shows on the phone status bar when you pull down on the phone.

You can't see the full message on the watch. You need the phone for that.

@cantfineanswer  - can you chat via the Fitbit App, click profile photo, Help & support, Contact Customer support. They may take you through a factory reset.

Have done factory reset and all the trouble  shooting. Nothing is fixing the issue. Looks like others have the same issue.

Found out from another forum.  If you have a Samsung Android then you need to change a setting in your message app to enable preview of message.  It did the trick for me.

1. Open your "Messages" app on your Android device.
2. Go to "Settings."
3. Click on "Notifications."
4. Make sure there is a check mark next to "Preview Message"
