Can't read notifications on my Versa 4

Only very rarely can I see messages on versa 4. I get the notification but when I tap screen nothing happens. I’ve seen some responses say click open but I don’t seem to have this option. I have an iPhone 8+

I can only access messages and reply via my phone 

Any help gratefully received

Please bear in mind the tips below are how the notifications work on your Fitbit device:

• To delete 1 notification, tap the notification Clear.
• To delete all notifications at once, swipe to the end of your notifications and tap Clear All.
• For longer notifications, tap the notification to see the full message.
• To exit the notifications screen, press the back button or swipe down.
• If you clear a notification from your device, the notification is removed from your phone's notification center. If you clear a notification from your phone, the notification is removed from your device.

If your Versa 4 does not take any of the actions described above, please restart your Fitbit device as suggested here How do I restart my Fitbit device? If the restart doesn't work try to change your clock face. If this fixes the issue, you can change your clock face back to the original clock face.
