I have had nothing but trouble from this birthday present. I had accepted that it doesn’t do all the stuff it promised but it did at least track my steps/miles but today it decided not to do that and I didn’t noticed till bedtime. I have been out on two long walks today which should have registered at least 13k of steps but I noticed it has registered less than 5k. I have had it 4 months - can I return it? My old charge3 was so much more reliable.

Sad to hear that you're having issues with your Versa 4.
Fitbit's return policy covers 45 days from shipment. Please make sure your phone meets Fitbit's current system requirements to give you access to all functions:
If it does, I'd suggest to start all over to hopefully get everything to work as supposed. To do so, please first sync your device to not lose any data it might have tracked so far and give your device a full charge. Next swipe down from the clock face and tap the gear icon in the upper right corner to access Settings. Now swipe to About Versa 4 and tap that. Then swipe to Factory Reset, tap and confirm.
Now remove your Versa 4 from your Fitbit app and restart your phone. Finally please closely follow the steps mentioned here to set up your Versa 4:
