Epic fail, fitbit software engineers.

When I tap plus to add an exercise, I’m telling Fitbit that from this minute in time to that minute in time, such as 1:12 P.M. - 1:42 P.M., I was running, dancing, hiking, riding my bike, rock, climbing, walking, swimming, whatever.  Previously, it worked great, Fitbit would categorize whatever steps, heart rate, zone minutes, distance traveled, elevation gain, etc, into whatever exercise I had chosen for that time period.  if I chose that I have been running, walking, or riding my bike outdoors during that time., Fitbit would calculate for me the distance traveled.  That was wonderful.

Now, Fitbit is incredibly stupid. Now, when I add an exercise and tell her that I was doing it from this time to that time, Fitbit ignores whatever data is collected for me during that time period.  Instead, Fitbit asks me to tell it how far I traveled during that time period.

I’m like, are you kidding me? Fitbit, you’ve got GPS. You’re supposed to be telling me how far I ran during that 20 minute period. Not the other way around.

Even worse, if I go ahead and guesstimate how far I traveled, during my run, Fitbit actually adds steps to my total for the day!  It probably also adds zone minutes, too, I’m not sure. I haven’t looked into it that far because when I see that it has added steps, I just go ahead and delete the exercise. Because I don’t want to artificially inflate how many steps I took during the day.

I can’t believe you all screwed up this badly. Do the software engineers not even use the Fitbit?

@RaquelitaDee are you using the Fitbit app to

  • setup a past activity.
  • Rename a recorded activity.

Normally when adding, through the Fitbit app, a past activity, on android, I've always had to add distance.

I found it best to use the Workout (non GPS) or Outdoor Workout (GPS enabled). Then renaming after a sync.

Yes there are still differences between the Android and iOS apps
