Two Fitbit devices are showing different GPS results

I have recently noticed that mine and my wife’s distance on our excercise’s are different even though we run/walk along side each other and complete the same route together. The map on the exercise also shows the same. I currently have a Charge 4 and my wife has the Sense. Now I might be wrong but I thought regardless of the device using the watch GPS should bring the same results? Sometimes the results can be over half a mile different.

is there anything I can do to adjust this to show the correct data?

@dwoolfy89

I also have a Charge4 and find I get the most accurate and reliable GPS results if I start the run/walk activities from the exercise app on my fitbit with GPS configured to use my iPhone's GPS. Also, you might check the app version on your and your wife's fitbits. Are the the same? I've seen a lot of complaints about version v4.12 causing GPS problems. Can't verify this since I stopped updating my app a while back.

Hi there, @dwoolfy89. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and the details provided in your post regarding the discrepancy between your Versa 4 and your wife's Sense. We're here to help!

As a first approach, I would like to clarify that it's normal that you see a difference when you are comparing your data with another person, this is because Fitbit devices record your data based on your personal information (age, gender, weight and height).

If you feel that your step count and distance are inaccurate, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

On a side note, please bear in mind that Fitbit devices use the formula below to calculate distance. Your stride length is determined by your height and sex. Steps x Stride Length = Distance Traveled

Please note when you track an activity with GPS, your device calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, your device calculates distance using your steps until GPS connects.

To update your stride length, track a run with GPS or measure your stride length manually. For more information, see Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

For more information about GPS, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?

Hey, @mcw53. Thanks for stopping by in the forums! I appreciate you taking the time to share those tips and recommendations. I'm glad to hear you managed to get accurate GPS data now.
