I'd appreciate it if you could provide a screen shot of the error message you see when attempting to change the clock face so I can better understand what's going on. Please be aware that some of the frequently performed actions within the app have changed.
I'd advise reading this article, which explains how to change the clock face using the new interface in the best possible way.
Referring to the data that was lost. I advise you to log out of your account and then log back in.
