Versa 4 is asking to subscribe to a monthly service during my setup process

I just purchased a Fitbit versa four. I download the app according to the procedure to try to get my Fitbit working. During the process I have come to a point in the download where it wants me to subscribe to a monthly service. I had heard that you do not have to pay any fee to get the Fitbit to work. However, I can’t get past this Option they want to charge me a fee to download data. I don’t want to pay a fee for a monthly service. How do I get around this in setting up my Fitbit?

@TomboyEtown , a warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message. 

When purchasing a Versa 4, you'll get 6 month Fitbit Premium for free.  To redeem them, the app will prompt you to subscribe to Premium (Select a plan),  but beneath the price shown, you should see the time frame for the free Premium subscription. 

If you don't want to use Premium afterwards, you'll have to de select the subscribe option before the 6 months are over, so that you don't continue the paid subscription. 

If you don't want to use the 6 month Premium. You can skip this step, and continue using the Versa 4 with our normal, free app. 

With Premium you'll have access to further information than with the free app.

Hi @TomboyEtown - the process is designed to get you to use premium but if you don't want it, merely click the X or Skip option at the top of the screen, and may be the back button works too without breaking the installation process.
