Versa 4 is not tracking my floors accurately

I found quite a many posts regarding wrong count of floors but interestingly all are closed for replies.

Reasons for wrong count are given as - moisture (for a device claimed to be water resistant by the manufacturer), opening doors and what not!

How come the same device worked under the same conditions properly earlier?

I also wonder why they need location access for syncing with phone. I have not seen any data that needed location post facto the data being recorded on the device.

Also, why can't it be synced with only bluetooth without requiring net access?

I regret patronizing Fitbit, a company I had high hopes on.

@Unhappyuser9   I can answer some of your questions.  The water resistance refers to keep the compartment with the battery, motherboard, etc., free from water.  The altimeter must be open to the atmosphere in order to sense the change in barometric pressure.  So, water can enter through the small hole to the altimeter, because air does.  I personally haven't had floor counting problems from water.  I spend my entire workday on the same floor.  I must go through tight fire doors to get to certain places.  I get several floors every workday from the perceived change in barometric pressure opening certain doors.  I also live in an area that can get all day storms with gusty winds all day.  A colleague and I each got more that 50 floors, but never left our office during one of those stormy days.

Getting hundreds or thousands of floors is a different story.  The altimeter might be damaged.  What is your floor counting issue?

I don't have an answer why we need your location on to sync.  It is specifically listed as an Android requirement.

You need internet access when you sync because your data syncs with your account and isn't stored on your phone.

Fitbit began closing some threads if there was no new activity for 30 days.  I agree that some threads were closed without a resolution.  I am not an employee, so I can't change that.

I hope this helps.
