Versa 4 not tracking walking distance

ANSWERED

My Versa will not track mileage as I walk around the house or when I go on walks outside. What's weird is that it will count steps, and it will count my distance when RUNNING (it won't track it otherwise). I have tried resetting my Fitbit, updating the GPS tracker, disconnecting and reconnecting Bluetooth, reinstalling the app, you name it, but none of it is working. Does anyone know of any way to fix this?

Hi everybody!

Welcome to the community! Thank you for your messages and efforts.

Our team is aware of the situation and is working on a solution to it.

Many users have now confirmed that they were able to fix it by entering the stride length themselves. It's worth a try until our team has worked on the solution.
You can find instructions for this here:Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

Please follow this thread where all updates will be posted. Distance appears as 0 after sync

I'll need a lot more information to understand your situation.  Do you mean your daily mileage is not increasing as you walk around in your house, or is it jut that when your are doing something recorded as an exercise session as a "Walk", the workout summary does not show any mileage?  Is it showing mileage of 0, or just not showing a spot for mileage?  If not showing a spot fro mileage, have you tried looking at the fitbit.com dashboard?  Is this for a "walk" that is auto-detected or did you use the Exercise App to start and end the walk?

I think I’m having the exact same issue. Exercise counts when I start it with GPS, however unless GPS is connected my distance doesn’t increase

Me too. Mine started yesterday. Fitbit support says to update stride length. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

@MishaRae  Hate to be a nuisance, but it would be helpful if you could state from scratch what is happening to you, including which tracker.  I'm not a FItbit/Google employee but I have better access to reporting these type problems, and the more clear separate reports, the better chance to get someone's ear.
Thanks

P.S. I could tell you how to adjust stride length but that would not fix problem.  Maybe if you thought you should be getting 6 miles but only were getting credit for 5.5, but not when you suddenly started not getting any mileage, and several others started getting same problem.  I expect support didn't even realize this was a new problem that had just started cropping up; and even if they did, they wouldn't have an answer yet as I suspect it is a bug just introduced.

This is happening to myself as well.

Versa 4 is not tracking my distance cover when not doing an exercise or the walking exercise.

It will only track distance when connected to GPS during the run exercise.

This started between Wednesday 3rd July - Thursday 4th July.

Seems like a bug!!

Additionally my fitbit still detects a walk but no distance see attached

I notice that after my walk of over an hour it said I travelled a distance of 0.02km so I adjusted my stride length from automatic to manual and that seems to have fixed my problem, seems like an update for automatic stride length calculation is incorrect

@DomDom94  Good detective work.  I will report that.  You might be onto something there.

Exact same problem.  Started July 3.  I have tried everything to fix this.  Anyone have an answer?

Try turning off automatic stride length,

1) click activity

2) activity settings (3 dots top right)

3) stride length

4) turn of set automatic and then put a value in for walking stride length. I set mine to 75cm

Where is "activity"?  I am not finding stride length anywhere.  Thanks

I get to it by clicking on exercise days? This is all on the phone app not on the fitbit itself!

Thanks!  I think it's working now but won't know until the next walk.

Seems to be the same issue that is happening with Charge 5. @JohnnyRow from reading the comments on this forum, more users seem to be having the same issue with Kms not being tracked. I have steps being tracked but no Kms. I am aware you are not a Fitbit employee 😉 but if you hear anything or know how to fix this issue let me know. Thanks, Sara

I have the exact same issue .  Pace and total distance for walks show as 0.00, but steps are calculated.  Started on July 3rd.  Worked for runs, but not for walks , or for elliptical.

@sara.calhas @Oney82, have you both tried the above stride length adjustment , if not try that and then post the results in here. That will let fitbit know if that it is the same issue for everyone.

I adjusted the stride length manually and that does get it to work.  However, I keep trying to figure out an accurate stride length to use and it is not working.  I walked a known 3 mile course and it said I walked 2.5.  I researched and changed it.  Then it was the opposite way - about 30% over.

I don't want to do a ton of calculations but would love to have an average walking stride for a 5'5" female.  Can anyone help me out?  I really wish Fitbit would use GPS and not strides to determine distance.  It seems to do so for runs which are always the correct distance.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I did update my stride  length but it got worse because I’m short .  I’m participating in a 5k and the person next to me with an Apple Watch gets the 5k and mine is 2.71.  I’m regretting buying this Versa as it is pretty much useless for walking distance and spinning which are my main modes of exercise.

Hi @DomDom94 yes just updated now the stride length manually and tested now and it is working. It is a workaround but would be great if this would be automatic to capture the accurate stride. Thanks for suggesting this!
