My Versa 4 only shows the time (correctly) and a small running person in very small type at the top of the face of the watch. Can't do anything else. No text messages come through, can't go to settings, etc. Anybody else experience this?

I agree with @Kevans326. As per the description of your post, it seems like your Versa 4 is into an exercise mode. For more information, see How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?
If the above doesn't describe your issue, please try restarting your Versa 4 by following these steps.
If the issue persists, would you mind sharing with us an image of your Versa 4's display to see what you're seeing? To properly attach your image, you can just copy and paste into the composition box. If the image is on your clipboard, it should paste into the message just fine.
Alternately, you can click the camera icon when composing a reply, and you'll get an interface to attach your image.

I don't think in an expert but have you searched online to see the different views you have on the device? If you swipe left you can see different screens of data including heart rate. I don't think my versa 4 is enabled to receive text messages but I'd like to know what others think
