Versa 4 steps don't match with the Fitbit app

With Fitbit's most recent update about a week ago being useless as always, the stats for steps, etc do not match when comparing the watch face with the app on phone after syncing. Ex.: Right now watch shows 29799 steps while app shows 29994. Yesterday, the difference was almost 1000 steps. Other stats have been off as well.

Hi there! I have been having similar issues with steps not being accurate on watch and app since this last update. My steps are almost 2,000 different from watch to app. The accurate information is on my app. My zone minutes are also not accurate. The app is recording the watch versus what is accurate on my app. Almost 30 minutes difference. It is very frustrating. I contacted Fitbit this evening and was told to take off my phone and just have my Versa 4 only and see if that works. Not sure if it will help anyone but maybe worth a shot to see.

Just wanted to add that I noticed this starting this weekend as well.  Various others on Reddit confirm same.  Most likely started after latest firmware update on my versa 4.  In case any moderators are reading, versa 4 firmware version: 61.20001.214.24 and fitbit app version: 4.41 on iPhone 14 pro max running latest iOS 18.3.2

Currently steps on app show about 200 steps more than versa 4 and thus the calories burned are also slightly off.  As far as i can tell, all other stats are syncing fine and match versa 4 and app.   iPhone is not connected to app, have restarted phone, versa4, bluetooth on/off, etc.  I am not resetting the versa 4 or deleting re-installing the app.

My guess is latest firmware is causing the bug.  Please fix Google!  thank you

I did everything for this fix and it didn’t resolve the issue. My steps are almost 2,000 off and my zone minutes are affected about 16 minutes difference. I absolutely agree with the firmware update is the reason this occurred. I hope removing my phone helps this. It is a shame with all of this technology that it happened out of nowhere. I have never seen such lag ever. I will let you know what happens. I am hoping for resolution today. I would hate to leave Fitbit after 11 years being with them.

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know I was in touch with Fitbit today and am still having the same issues with steps, zone minutes and miles. They are working on figuring out what happened. I was also told to watch for another update. Maybe it will resolve everything. One can only hope. It is frustrating to say the least. I will keep you posted when I hear anything.

Here is the response from Fitbit:
By the way, we have a new update for the app to 4.41 that is currently rolling out again.
We recommend updating your Fitbit app once the update is available on your end.

So frustrating. My app has been showing more steps than my charge 6. Started out correct this morning, but just tracked a workout on my Fitbit and now steps are off again. Yesterday set gps to only while using, instead of always. Thought maybe the gps was adding steps as it tracked my location. Grasping at straws.

Yes it is. I still have no resolution with mine either. It is almost 2,000 steps off by the end of the day. The zone minutes by 12 minutes. The miles are off and the floors. Still awaiting Fitbit response. The last update screwed something up. They keep telling me to take my phone off but that solved nothing. Some reason the watch is lagging. I believe the app to me is correct information. Problem when it resets it takes the wrong information which is to me the worst thing. Especially when I have accomplished more during the day. Hope Fitbit gets it together or I will have to find something else to use. I have had Fitbit for 11 years now. Just ridiculous this is happening!

My Charge 6 is doing the same thing. No help from Fitbit. Can't even work their online dashboard anymore. Probably time to move on to another type of watch.

Hi there everyone!

Thank you so much everyone for reporting that the steps between your watches and trackers are not matching the ones in the Fitbit app. I am sorry for all the inconveniences this is causing and want to thank you all for all your efforts and for the ones that contacted our customer support too.

Can you please check if you have "MobileTrack" activated? MobileTrack is a Fitbit feature that uses your phone's sensors to count steps when you don't have your Fitbit with you. It's possible that the steps recorded on your phone overwrite those on your Fitbit devices.

Here's how to turn this feature off:

  • In the Fitbit app, tap the device icon (top left).
  • There you'll see the devices paired with your account.
  • This option will display as "Phone", tap it and then select "Disconnect device".

Additionally, please check if you have the newest version of the Fitbit app. Here's how to update it depending on which OS version your phone has:

Disconnecting my phone still has not resolved my issues at all.

I think something happened with the last update. My device and app step counts are off by 84 today, it's been more than that earlier in the week. I've made several attempts to resolve it, but nothing has worked. Do you think y'all could do another update to fix this, as I see I'm not the only person having this problem. Plus, I've got 2 other apps connected to my Fitbit and they show what's on the app. What will happen with those?

I was told to complete a factory reset. I had already completed one and it didn’t resolve it before. I did it again just a few minutes ago and then had to reset the watch once it was complete. It still did nothing to fix the issues. I was told once the factory reset was done they could gather more information to diagnose the problem. I agree the last update did something to Fitbit watches. My steps are 991 different today between my device and the app. My floors and miles are also slightly different as well. The rest of the week the miles have been off by almost 1,500. It’s very frustrating and I hope Fitbit is working to fix it. Would be nice if they could perform another update to fix this glitch.

My stats have improved with the exception of my zone minutes. It still continues to be an issue. Everyday with synching throughout the day it is 15 to 22 minutes less than it should be. I reached out again to Fitbit and I was told I would have to wait for the next update. I don’t even know if that’s going to resolve my issue. Fitbit needs to get it together this is frustrating to see the minutes off everyday.

It happened to me last night on my charge 5. I synced up 18600 step's on my watch and phone, 10 minutes later my watch had dropped to 16000 steps or there around!! It's so annoying!!

Best Answer

That is annoying and ridiculous! I was suggested by Fitbit to unsynch my phone and only use my watch. Then also to remove the set the time zone automatically to just where I live, which is eastern standard time.  I needed to adjust my stride length to automatic. I did all of those things but the zone minutes are frustrating me with 20 something minutes each day. So I am working out and not getting that time. I was told to try a factory reset. It didn’t help mine so not sure doing that will resolve anything. Also can try restarting your watch. See if you and everyone can make those adjustments and see if that helps you. Like I mentioned the zone minutes are killing me right now. Then it makes the cardio load have some unreachable goal everyday of 150 or higher. Fitbit needs to get this update ready and fix whatever bug created from the last update.

I've done all of the above. I swapped my Inspire 3 for my factory reset Charge 5, I also tried an old Inspire 2 and had had the same issue on them all. I don't stay attached to the app, I only grant permissions once a day or so when I sync up. I use an Android Samsung S23 ultra but this issue appears to be happening to both Android and Apple users. It really is poor customer service!
