Versa 4 won't GPS track when 'sport' is selected

When I turn GPS tracking on for a walk it works. However when I turn on GPS and track a 'sport' it does not work. The watch says it's connected to GPS successfully, but no distance or map appears in the app once I've finished. Is this a fundamental flaw in the device? Or is there a way this can be fixed?
