My wife has a Versa 4 that will no longer work unless it is on the charger.  I've tried restarting it, a factory reset, tried changing the watch face but nothing is working.  As soon as I take it off the charger it shuts down.  If I put it back on the charger it will turn back on and work again.

Sad to hear that you're having an issue with your Versa 4.
As a first attempt to hopefully get things fixed, please have a closer look here for troubleshooting:

Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging?
