Versa 4 won't work unless it's connected to the charger

Straight out of the box versa 4 only works when on the charger. It works off the charger but only when the screen is on. I looked at forums and did the suggested fixes, restart device, updated firmware and changed the clock face but still no solution. Is there any other troubleshooting step that I can take?
