Voice cues during exercise don't work

Ever since the new phone app was installed I don't hear the voice cues at mile splits.  Irritating.  Give me back the old phone app. I click the speaker icon off and on.  No voice.  It used to announce "voice cues on".  No longer.  Please don't give me the standard try this.  The user interface seems to change at a whim and the instructions are always out of date.  I've done the turn off turn on everything.  Reboots ad nauseum.  Your software configuration management must be run by amateurs.  Irritated

@DocGuitar   Do you use an Android or iPhone?  These voice cues come from the Fitbit app.  You can use this feature without owning a Fitbit.
