Why does Google maps on my Versa 4 need access to my heart rate?

Hi, Google maps was not working on my Versa 4 and it took me ages to find out why.

So, when I install any app on Amy if my devices I review the permissions so that I can limit the usually far reaching wants if the developers. So when I installed Google maps on my Versa 4 I denied Google maps request for permission to access heart rate data. Seems perfectly reasonable. I mean why does Google maps need this information. It is not tracking my health? To that is supposed to be done by Googles Fitbit services.

So can someone at Fitbit/Google please explain to me why this is deemed necessary for the basic functioning of the Google maps app on my Versa 4. Because to me it seems like completely unnecessary data and that Google maps are perhaps abusing their position as being the only application on the Fitbit app/gallery which facilitate this notification? And are they also abusing their dominance in the market again?

@DHealy   You get an Activity recap on your Versa 4 screen when you arrive at your destination.  You can see an example in the screenshots in the App details in the Gallery.  Tap on your device/battery icon > Versa 4 > Google Maps in the app list (not the tile near the top) > scroll to the bottom for screenshots.  The Activity recap includes Zone minutes.  The app needs heart rate information to calculate zone minutes.

An unnecessary addition. Considering they've stripped so much other
functionality from the versa series.

Not true. It does need the permission for you to see the review of your workout.(bcz it shows heart rate zones and such.)

I wouldn't consider a walk/cycle for which I need the assistance of Google
maps for directions to be a workout.

I think it's a complete overreach by Google.

In that case, yes, it is unnecessary, but fitbit counts every maps journey as a walk or cycle workout as well
