ive been thinking of purchasing a fitbit versa 4. What are the 40 different exercise modes it has?

@Qr0s3 just as a word of warning, if new sports modes are what you are after then know this is kinda useless feature as all it introduces is new labels and icons. Basically, on older models you get the same by tracking as Workout and later renaming the activity. Only thing you will be missing are icons. New modes don't add new sport specific metrics. Not a problem considering that Fitbit doesn't offer any viewing/filtering data by sport type etc.
