Fitbit provides a web API for getting access to data. However I have noticed that the FitBit app only syncs this data maybe every 1minute, 3minutes, 20 minutes. I am doing an Honours Computing Project for the live monitoring of elderly people is there a way, port I can get access to the Heart rate data from the app, for live monitoring as the synced data is historical and not live data.

No, there is no way to get live data. The tracker must be sync'd to the Fitbit servers first. The API currently does not contain heart rate or GPS data, but the next update (date unknown) will have that data.

I was also looking to get real-time access to the HR information from a fitbit. Any idea if the next update will allow for real-time HR data?

@thebossman No, Fitbit has not announced any plans to allow direct/real time access to their trackers. Their API only allows access to data synced on to their servers. You certainly can add, or vote for, it in the Feature Request forum.
