Hey dear developer community 🙂
I just started to develop an android app which shall access fitness data from the Google Pixel Watch 2 which uses fitbit. First I tried out to use Health connect, but the data send to health connect from the fitbit app seems pretty limited so the new idea is to get the data from the fitbit cloud directly using the Fitbit WEB API in my own mobile application.
However I got confused about all this google integration from fitbit. It looks like health connect shall become the central place to manage health data in the google environment and there is also google cloud which provides "Device Connect for Fitbit" to get fitness data from the fitbit cloud (as far as I understood this).
So my question is. Does anyone now if the fitbit Web API is future-prooved and will not be shut down by google as well ? So will it replaced by health connect at some point or be eaten up by google cloud ?
I just want to avoid to start using Fitbit Web API now and then it gets removed in the next 2 years.
Best regards
Frank

There are no plans to deprecate the Fitbit Web API. Health Connect and Device Connect for Fitbit are other solutions for getting Fitbit data is very specific scenarios.

Hey Frank,
Did you figure out a web API to get all of your stats off of Fitbit? I'm trying to use the one here: https://dev.fitbit.com/build/reference/web-api/activity/get-lifetime-stats/ but the get doesn't seem to be working. It keeps saying status unauthenticated when I try out the link for the GET request. Let me know it'd be super helpful I'm trying to get my Fitbit stats for a data science project for a course I'm taking.

Hey TryingMyBest123,
I can not help you since in the end we did not follow up the fitbit WebAPI approach. Additionally I do not think that this is the right thread for your question. I recommend you to open a new thread and raise your question to one of the experienced fitbit devlopers like e.g. Gordon.
Best regards
