Fitbit app shows more steps for user but api call to get steps data is returning fewer steps

On our end, whenever user logs in to our portal-> we pull the data ( We just get steps) from fitbit for the logged in user ( If he is connected to Fitbit- from Prev login to current login). Whenever data is returned Fitbit response is returning less steps/no steps at all for a day.  

User is seeing more steps in Device-> whereas with API Call it is returning less steps/no steps.

Below is the API  we are using:

https://api.fitbit.com/1/user/[user-id]/ activities/steps/date/[base-date]/[end-date].json
