Getting user input via button presses

Is it possible as an app developer to present the user with a question, and allow them to respond with a simple answer (for example, a number from 1 to 5) using a button? I'm new to fitbit development and I would like to know if this is possible before buying a device for development. I couldn't see anything obvious in the (very limited) API documentation on accessing button presses or displaying notifications. Obviously this would be device specific as only certain devices have buttons (eg the Surge).

Thanks

I also have a interest / need for information on any available APIs that relate to button pushes. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Fitbit has a Web API, which allows access to data, but does not currently have a way for third-party applications to execute on devices to track things like device button presses.
