Hi,
I am interested in getting HRV metrics from a user during the course of the day for research purposes.
I have been looking at some fitbit information and have read that HRV metrics are only measured overnight.
Wouldn't there be a way to measure these HRV metrics during the day?
Thank you for your help.

Hi @Ikerentrena
Unfortunately, we do not record HRV data during the day at this time. You can read the complete details in the endpoint documentation at https://dev.fitbit.com/build/reference/web-api/heartrate-variability/get-hrv-summary-by-date/#Collec.... In summary, it states
There are many factors that can affect a user’s HRV value. Recording the data while a person is asleep allows the Fitbit device to correctly and accurately collect HRV data. Data is only processed when the user is still. If a user moves too much or their sleep session is too short, this can prevent HRV data from being processed correctly. In addition, if recorded data is incapable of computing specific sleep stages for a period of sleep, this will compromise the user’s ability to retrieve an HRV value.
I can confirm there is a ticket requesting all day HRV recording and attach your name to it. If the functionality becomes available, then we can let you know.

It’s interesting that HRV metrics are typically measured overnight, as that's when the body is at rest and recovery is most evident. However, some devices and apps are starting to track HRV throughout the day as well. Koalageddon has some useful discussions on tracking health metrics for optimal performance. Do you think tracking HRV during the day would provide more insights?

The support team has already notified the product team there is interest from the developer community to receive HRV data recorded throughout the day.
