When I manually log in my activities, I lose credit for my steps earned -

If I manually log in an activity, either on the computer directly or though the app on my phone, I lose credit for the steps I have already taken for the day.  Fitbit friends, that I have, do not have this problem.  Please help.

depends on the the type of activity you enter. Some of them overwrite the step count from fitbit, some of them don't. Also make sure you have your timezone set correctly so you don't overwrite the wrong time period.

dawn, I seem to have the same issue. On monday I went for  5 mile jog and walk, logged it, and kept my activity minutes.

Then another few days out of the week I went for some deliberate walks with runkeeper at a pretty brisk pace and lost my activity minutes. I think the activity minutes go by steps per minute. and as long as you're being active and logging it you should be a-ok. It is kind of frustrating to see the activity minutes go MIA but the calories burned and logs stay. I started using the runkeeper for the GPS because I felt that my autocalculated stride may be a bit off and I was right. I need to go do something measureable on a track to fix it for my "normal pace walk" and my "normal pace run" to get the stride but until then I will manually log these events

When you manually log an activity it flattens the calories graph resulting in an average/minute calorie burn over the time period of the manual activity.  Fitbit calculates Very Active Minutes (VAM) every 60 seconds and you will have peaks and troughs over the time period tracker is recording the activity.

Distance is not used in the calorie calculations, just steps/speed and possibly some impact.

We should all know how many calories are needed for one minute of VAM and I have posted this simple manual activity graph to show how I worked out my range of Active Minutes. I need 7 calories/minute rounded to get 1 x VAM.
