I just bought my 2nd Zip and I cannot open mine. Have damaged the back a little, so now I am stuck with something that doesn't work. I liked my 1st one.
What a waste of time now!
After an hour and a half of trying coins, the plastic disc (had tried 2 of them), then various screwdrivers, I was forced to pound on it. I had to open it any way I could.
Did so much damage that I used my first Zip disc to replace the one I just destroyed. Not going to buy a 3rd one!

I used a quarter and it did a ton of damage

Started to damage the back with a quarter, so then used a small chisel (to turn it, not chisel it out), but couldn't hold the fit itself to keep it from turning. Found this list, and then found the tool. But needed to hold the fit in a pair of pliers. Then got it open.

Using a hammer to tap on it only works if you've already been able to turn the back to Unlocked.
I finally ended up using a chisel blade to open it, holding the Zip with a leather glove! The width of the chisel blade was close to the width of the slot opening. Still, this and previous attempts left some damage to the slot.
Ridiculously hard to open.

i'm actually rather enjoying the collection of ways people have come up with to actually use their device because Fitbit cannot make one that works properly. Now don't get me started on the rubbery case thing that breaks every 4 months or so.

Now my old cranky Fitbit zip is in my junk drawer. The iPhone health app counts steps for me.

I think many of us long-time users have probably moved past the Zip as our tracker and on to something more robust. The other Fitbit products are generally better. I use a One now because I like to count "flights of stairs" or # of feet climbed (as I see it) when I'm cycling.

Hi everyone! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Fitbit Zip. To better assist you, make sure that you have followed these steps:
Using the battery door tool to unlock the battery door insert the tool into the slot on the back of the unit, and turn the door counterclockwise to remove it.
If this doesn't help, you can also check out the awesome suggestions by @Odyssey13 on this post.
Keep me posted! 🙂
