Got a free fitbit zip for corporate steps challenge. Apparently it does not work without me setting up an account and entering my private information, so I tossed it. Glad it was free. My IPhone counts steps just fine.

Welcome to the Community @ManhattanAbe. Sorry to hear that you don't have your Zip with you anymore. Please be aware the information requested when creating your account is used to estimate your calories burned only. You can check out how Fitbit estimates calories burned here.

You can set, in your Dashboard your privacy settings to don't disclose any information with anybody if that's required. Additionally, it could be a good idea visiting the Fitbit Privacy Policy for more information about privacy.

Welcome to the forums @ManhattanAbe

I'm sorry you chose to throw the Zip away. You don't have to give your real name and location in order to get an account. Any information you use is confidential and not given to anyone, plus it's stored on the Fitbit servers.

Whatever you do, keep on stepping.
