Fitbit Charge HR and Zip step disrecpancies

I found that my Charge HR was not recording steps when I wore it on the wrist of the hand that I carry a handbag or bag in (my hand obviously wasn't moving enough to register). So, I would swap the Charge HR onto the other wrist when walking for longer distances. This became quite cumbersome when I had to do it a couple of times a day, so I bought the Zip to use as my main recorder of steps.

Now I find that when wearing both at the same time, I regularly have a discrepancy of anywhere from 650 steps to over 1,000 steps, even though I am wearing them both at the same time. The Zip always shows less than the Charge. And I wear the charge on the hand that doesn't move much. Why such a big discrepancy? I'm starting to think that my only option is to find something to allow me to wear one of them on my ankle!

Hi @Lozv1, it is great to see new faces around the Community! Robot Very Happy Depending if you are a right or left handed person, it will affect the amount of steps. For example, if you are a right handed person, you have to use your tracker on the other hand and viceversa. Now lets see, you are using the Fitbit Zip and the Fitbit Charge HR at the same time, right? We don't recommend you to compare the results of both tracker because the way they track is different, remember that the Charge HR records your steps using the movement of your arms, so I can tell you that is pretty accurate, but you can get some extra steps.

Let me know if you have further questions!

Thanks HeydyFitbit. That's confirmed what I've been thinking: the Zip is not really useful as an accurate tracker (it is more indicative than exact), and swapping my Charge HR to my right hand when walking while carrying a bag on my left shoulder is the *only* way I'm going to keep my steps accurate, until I can find a solution for wearing a tracker on my ankle. 🙂

Thanks for getting back to me @Lozv1! Well, we don't recommend you to use the Charge HR in your ankle because It is not designed to be wear there. It'll count your steps but not as accurate as if you were correctly using it, which is on your wrist (depending if you are right or left handed). Now regarding the Zip, it is a pretty basic tracker but pretty accurate, but as you mentioned, the Charge HR is a little bit more accurate than that one, since it is using a better and more advanced technology to get better results.

I'll be around if you have other questions! Smiley Wink
